A soldier was killed when a car bomb exploded in the Syrian capital Damascus. This was reported by the state news agency Sana, citing the Defense Ministry. 18 other people were injured, the state agency reported, citing a representative of the Ministry of Health.

The media and communications directorate of the Defense Ministry Sana said the car bomb exploded near a ministry building. An army unit had previously discovered an explosive device placed there. Afterwards, a car bomb exploded in the same area during an attempt to defuse it.
Residents reported that several vehicles caught fire or were damaged. Shots were heard after the explosion.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, security forces sealed off a large area of the area. Several young men were arrested for trying to take photos.
