After the serious traffic accident with eight deaths in the Thai capital Bangkok, investigators are making allegations against the driver of the train who rammed a bus. The train driver was proven to have been on drugs and did not have a valid driver’s license, Thai media reported, citing local authorities.
The freight train hit the bus on Saturday afternoon near the Makkasan train station as it crossed the tracks. The bus was swept away and rammed into several cars and motorcycles, causing them to catch fire. Photos showed thick clouds of smoke and burned-out vehicles. About 30 people were injured.
According to the Bangkok Post, the transport authority has now ordered mandatory alcohol and drug tests for all employees in train operations. In addition, investigations have been announced against supervisors who allowed the 46-year-old train driver to drive the train. The driver has since been suspended. (nil/sda/dpa)
