In the legal dispute between pop star Dua Lipa (30) and the electronics company Samsung over the use of a photo of the singer, Samsung has rejected the allegations. In a statement, the group explains: “The image of Dua Lipa was used in 2025 to display content from third-party partners available on Samsung TVs. The image was originally provided by a content partner for the free streaming service Samsung TV Plus. The use only took place after the content partner had expressly assured that all necessary rights had been obtained – including use on sales packaging.
The British woman had previously sued Samsung for damages of $15 million (just under 13 million euros). The legal dispute revolves around the use of a photo of the singer on the packaging of television sets. Dua Lipa accuses the company of using a photo of her, taken backstage at a festival in 2024, for advertising purposes without her consent and without appropriate compensation.
Samsung has “great respect for Dua Lipa” and the intellectual property of artists, it said. They are looking for an exchange with the singer and are “open to a constructive solution”.

Dua Lipa allegations
According to the lawsuit filed in California, the pop star had already asked the company to remove the image last year, but Samsung responded to her warning “dismissively and indifferently” and continued to use it. In the legal document, Dua Lipa cites, among other things, statements from customers who wrote on the X platform that the singer’s photo on the box enticed them to buy the television.
The Grammy winner, known for songs like “Houdini” and “Dance The Night,” claims that the company exploited her brand identity. In addition to the claim for damages of 15 million dollars, the singer insists that the photo be used immediately. (sda/dpa)
