The group played its last public concert on the roof of the building on January 30, 1969. At that time, the headquarters of the Beatles label Apple Corps was located there, and the studio in which the album “Let It Be” was recorded was also located in the basement.
Legendary recording studio is recreated true to the original
Apple Corps has bought back the building in central London and is planning a multi-floor experience for fans of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr with previously unpublished archive material and rotating exhibitions. According to those responsible, “Beatles at 3 Savile Row” is the band’s first official fan attraction. The building will be open to the public for the first time.
A detailed replica of the original “Let It Be” studio is also planned. Visitors should also be able to experience the famous rooftop concert at the exact location where it took place. The Beatles’ final performance was immortalized in Peter Jackson’s documentary “The Beatles: Get Back.” Apple Corps boss Tom Greene announced that even the original 1969 railing on the roof will be restored.
Ringo Starr: “It’s like coming home”
“It was really a special feeling to return to 3 Savile Row recently and look around,” Paul McCartney said in a statement on the Beatles website. “There are so many special memories in these walls – not to mention the roof. The team have put together some really impressive plans and I’m looking forward to people being able to see it when it’s all finished.” Ringo Starr added: “Wow, it’s like coming home.” (dab/sda/dpa)
