All good things come in threes: The well-known saying applies at least to the DSDS career of singer Menowin Fröhlich. The 38-year-old was named the winner of the 22nd season of the music program on Dieter Bohlen’s RTL TV show late on Saturday evening. Fröhlich impressed the most viewers and won the audience vote.
He prevailed against four other, significantly younger candidates. But both Constance Dizendorf (19), Tyrell Hagedorn (19), Paco Simic (23) and Abii Faizan (24) were left behind. For his victory, Fröhlich receives 100,000 euros and a record deal.

Fröhlich took part in the show for the first time in 2005 at the age of 18. At that time he already made it into the top 20 singers – but because he had to serve a prison sentence for assault and fraud, he left the show. Fröhlich competed a second time in 2010. There he made it far again and was the crowd’s favorite, but in the final he lost to his competitor Mehrzad Marashi.
Since then, Fröhlich has enjoyed a kind of celebrity status in Germany and took part in various reality shows. But he made more headlines with his recurring delinquency than with his music. The now 38-year-old has been convicted dozens of times since he was 13, including for theft, grievous bodily harm, fraud and trespassing. He also had to go to prison several times. Fröhlich struggled with drug addiction for a long time, and was last arrested in 2023.

Fröhlich’s renewed participation in Dieter Bohlen’s show caused a stir in recent weeks and also criticism from the audience – but the sympathies obviously outweighed the others. Although DSDS has now lost popularity compared to its heyday in the noughties and 10s, the show will continue with its 23rd season next year. The jury will again include the trio of Dieter Bohlen, party singer Isi Glück and rapper Bushido. (con)
