Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has complained about numerous violations by Russia of the ceasefire announced by Kiev.

So far, Russia has only responded to the ceasefire proposal with new strikes and attacks, he said in his evening video message. “Depending on the situation tonight and tomorrow, we will also determine our completely appropriate response,” he said.

Russia had received a clear offer and knew how to contact Ukraine or its partners for detailed questions, he said. In doing so, he gave the ceasefire a second chance.
At the same time, he made it clear that Ukraine had no interest in the ceasefire announced by Russia around the Victory Day celebrations on May 9th. If it is just a matter of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin holding his military parade undisturbed, the still valid offer for a ceasefire will not be maintained, he said.
Whether a ceasefire will come about remains unclear
At the end of April, Putin discussed the possibility of a ceasefire during the celebrations on May 9th during a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. The Russian Defense Ministry later announced a two-day ceasefire that would come into force on Friday night. Kiev responded by proposing to silence the weapons as of May 6th. Moscow has so far ignored this offer.
Russia’s Foreign Office spokeswoman Maria Zakharova once again repeated threats in the event of a Ukrainian attack on the military parade in Moscow. She calls on all foreign diplomats to leave Kyiv on time. If Ukraine tries to disrupt the celebrations with terrorist attacks, Russia will respond with a counterstrike, “including against the decision-making centers in Kiev,” Zakharova said in a comment that she also published on Telegram.
