Sweet worked in the design department of the US toy manufacturer Mattel for almost two decades. When the competition with Star Wars action figures had great success in the mid-1970s, Sweet was looking for a new hit figure. Together with the designer Mark Taylor, the Masters of the Universe figure series was created around the blonde muscle pack He-Man. The toy figures that hit the market in 1982 were followed by cartoon series, video games and films.
The muscular superhero will soon be fighting on the big screen again. The feature film “Masters Of The Universe” is scheduled to hit cinemas in early June. In it, the Brit Nicholas Galitzine plays Prince Adam, who one day finds the magic sword with which he gains superpowers and becomes the most powerful man in the universe – He-Man. (sda/dpa)
