“Good or naughty”: USA rates NATO partners in loyalty list

The White House has developed an internal rating system that divides NATO members into different categories – a list of “good and naughty”. According to a report by the US news portal Politico, the Trump administration wants to reward those states that bow to Washington’s demands. Uncooperative partners, on the other hand, must expect consequences. Politico cites three European diplomats and a US defense official who are familiar with the plan.

The US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth described countries that are particularly committed as “model allies” as early as December 2025. These included countries such as Israel, South Korea, Poland, the Baltics and “increasingly” Germany. “You will enjoy our special favor,” said the former TV presenter for the “Fox” channel.

Poland covers a large part of the costs for the 10,000 US soldiers stationed in the country. The Baltic states and Germany increased their defense spending from three to five percent of their respective gross domestic product, as demanded by US President Donald Trump. According to Pete Hegseth, the countries are in the favor of the USA and therefore probably on the “good” list.
