According to US President Donald Trump, the USA is preparing for new attacks on Iran if the planned peace talks fail. “We load the ships with the best ammunition, the best weapons ever made,” the New York Post quoted him as saying in a telephone interview. “And if we don’t reach an agreement, we will use them, and we will use them very effectively,” he threatened in the direction of Tehran.
He complained that you are dealing with people who you don’t know whether they are telling the truth or not. Trump explicitly criticized Iran’s public insistence on being allowed to enrich uranium. This demand is likely to become one of the points of conflict in any negotiations. Trump recently emphasized: “There will be no uranium enrichment.”
When asked whether he expected the negotiations to be successful, Trump said, according to the New York Post: “We’ll find out in about 24 hours. We’ll know soon.”
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured that his government would do its best to ensure that the talks are successful. «The most difficult task is still ahead. It will be all or nothing,” said Sharif.
Iran’s delegation will reportedly be led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. It is unclear when the delegation will leave – on Friday evening or not until Saturday morning.
After the start of a two-week ceasefire in the Iran war, negotiations on a lasting peace solution are set to begin this Saturday in the Pakistani capital Islamabad. The US delegation is led by Vice President JD Vance. Iran is tying its participation to an end to Israeli attacks on the Tehran-affiliated Hezbollah militia in Lebanon. (sda/dpa)
