The information cannot be independently verified, but according to the figures, the areas of Volgograd on the Volga and Rostov in the south were the focus of the attacks. Since Thursday evening, the Russian aviation authority Rosawiatsiya has imposed restrictions on operations at more than 25 airports.
The guns should be silent over Easter
Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a ceasefire from Saturday afternoon to Sunday evening for the coming Orthodox Easter weekend. According to its head of state Volodymyr Zelenskyj, Ukraine wants to respond to this in a mirror image.
In Svetly Yar in the Volgograd region of Russia, an oil tank was set on fire by the drone attack, according to Governor Andrei Bocharov. This was reported by the state news agency Tass. There is a chemical factory in Svetly Yar. The Volgograd refinery, one of the largest in Russia, which has also been attacked several times, is also nearby.
Ukraine curbs Russian oil exports
In recent weeks, Ukraine has increased its attacks on the Russian oil industry and systematically shelled export terminals on the Baltic and Black Seas. Because of higher oil prices due to the Iran war and relaxed US sanctions, Moscow is counting on more revenue for its war chest. The Ukrainian foreign intelligence service, however, calculated that Russian exports of oil and fuel fell slightly in March due to the damaged port facilities.
Sanctions easing is expiring
Exceptions to US sanctions against Russian oil expire on Saturday morning. US President Donald Trump ordered the easing in mid-March because oil was becoming scarce on the world market. Russia was allowed to sell oil that had already been loaded onto tankers for a month.
Russia, for its part, attacked Ukraine during the night with 128 drones, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. 113 flying objects were intercepted. A second wave of attacks followed in the morning on several regions. Explosions were heard in the capital Kiev, among other places, as the Suspilne radio station reported. (dab/sda/dpa)
