Many people have probably already heard of the Balearic island of Palma de Mallorca. In particular, the infamous party mile (the Ballermann) in the city of El Arenal will be familiar to some people from the Greater Canton. However, the place is no longer called El Arenal (Basque S’Arenal, translated as “sandfield”), but rather “Drunken”.
At least when it comes to the Apple Maps app. If you use the map service that is pre-installed on Apple products, you will actually find the place name “Drunken” when you zoom in. How and why this phenomenon arose is still unclear.
However, this seems to be Apple-wide, because “Drunken” is not only found in the map app (and on Zurich’s Langstrasse) – the local temperature can also be read in “Drunken” on Palma in Apple’s own weather app.
Perfect weather for a beer, right?Image: Watson
