31 students and two teachers from Switzerland were evacuated on Wednesday night due to a hotel fire in Verona (I). Everyone was fine and uninjured, the Swiss foreign ministry said at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.
The Hotel Maxim is located not far from Porto San Pancriazo train station.
The Swiss representation in Milan is in contact with the responsible authorities and with the affected school in Switzerland, it was said on Wednesday afternoon. Cause unclear
Around 300 people, including tourists, students and employees, were evacuated from the rooms of the hotel called “Maxim”, according to the Italian news agency Ansa. The fire in the Borgo Venezia district developed outside the hotel. The hotel accommodated about 300 people. A receptionist was slightly injured.
The causes of the fire are currently being investigated by the fire department, it said. She believes the flames spread from building materials and rubble that were stacked near the hotel. According to Ansa, renovation work is currently taking place on the top floor of the hotel. (val/sda)
