The juvenile court in Lancaster County sentenced the now 16-year-olds to six months of probation under juvenile criminal law. The teenagers would also have to do 60 hours of community service and pay the victims $12,000 to cover counseling costs for the damage caused. They are forbidden from having any contact with the victims.
Victims are afraid that images will spread again
According to reports, victims and their relatives also took part in the hearing, and more than 20 witnesses testified in court. They reported psychological distress and constant worry that the manipulated photos might appear in the future, the attorney general said.
Accordingly, the boys pleaded guilty to producing and distributing child pornographic material. But they did not apologize to their victims, the attorney general quoted the judge as saying. According to local media reports, the then 14-year-old boys created more than 300 of these images using artificial intelligence. (sda/dpa)
