Péter Magyar, leader of the Hungarian opposition party Tisza, has accused Viktor Orbán of taking action against his party with the help of the Hungarian intelligence services. Magyar wrote on He spoke of an “attempted coup against Hungary” and announced that a possible future government from his Tisza party would hold political leaders and intelligence chiefs legally accountable.
«A world that was built on lies has collapsed. “Hungarian secret services have been working on the instructions of Viktor Orbán and his inner circle against the Tisza party, which is preparing a change of government,” wrote Magyar. This affair, which he calls “Orbán Gate,” is reminiscent of the darkest days of communism and is even more serious than the Watergate scandal that brought down US President Richard Nixon.
The background is research by “Direkt36” into a case from July 2025. At that time, according to the reports, investigators from the cybercrime department of the National Investigation Office searched the apartments of two IT specialists from the Tisza party environment. The reason was an anonymous complaint about suspected depictions of sexual violence against children. However, according to “Direkt36”, the investigators found no evidence of the accusation on the confiscated devices.
The report also states that an unknown person with the code name “Henry” tried to recruit one of the young computer scientists from Tisza’s environment for his own purposes. He is said to have urged him to pass on internal information and regain access to party systems. In return he promised money, protection and support.
The chats reported by “Direkt36” also show that the aim was to gain control of parts of the Tisza infrastructure and to paralyze it before the parliamentary elections. The portal did not provide any evidence of who was behind “Henry”.

Reports of secret service pressure
What is particularly explosive is the accusation that Hungarian services shaped the process from the beginning. According to the research by “Direkt36”, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution is said to have urged rapid action before the police received the complaint. In addition, a specialist from the technical intelligence service NBSZ is said to have been present during one of the searches. Both authorities are under close government supervision in Hungary. According to the report, since 2022, control of the civil services has been under the Prime Minister’s Office, led by Orbán confidant Antal Rogán.
“Direkt36” bases its presentation on investigation files, chat histories and sources with insight into the proceedings. Accordingly, the investigating officers themselves are said to have developed the suspicion that they had discovered traces of a political or secret service operation. At the same time, they are said to have been forbidden from checking more closely who was behind “Henry”. There is currently no independent confirmation of these allegations.
The Hungarian parliamentary elections will take place on April 12th. In polls, Magyar’s Tisza party leads Prime Minister Orbán’s Fidesz party. He has ruled with an absolute majority for 16 years.
