New publications spotlight Erasmus+ Centres of Vocational Excellence

_European Commission News

The Commission has published two new resources on Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs):

Both publications show how CoVEs bring together VET providers, businesses, research institutions and public authorities in strong regional and local skills eco-systems, to equip learners with the skills Europe’s economy needs to increase its competitiveness as well as innovate VET systems.

What the report finds

Since 2019, Erasmus has funded 69 CoVE projects involving partners from over 30 countries. The report analyses 25 of them in depth and highlights how CoVEs:

  • develop modular curricula and micro-credentials aligned with labour market needs
  • strengthen collaboration between VET, higher education and industry
  • embed green and digital skills into training programmes
  • pioneer innovative teaching methods, from AI-powered tools to challenge-based learning

The report also identifies key success factors, including strong governance, active employer engagement and alignment with national and EU policy frameworks such as the Union of Skills and the Herning Declaration.

Background

Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs) are collaborative networks of vocational schools, businesses, universities, and public authorities. They work together to develop high-quality training that directly matches the skills employers and communities need.

By combining education, research, and industry, CoVEs promote flexible learning, innovative teaching, and inclusion. Since 2019, the EU has funded 69 Erasmus+ CoVE projects across more than 30 countries to support key priorities like the Union of Skills, the European Skills Agenda, and the Clean Industrial Deal.
