When asked whether the United States was responsible for the devastating attack, Trump told reporters aboard the government plane Air Force One: “No, in my opinion, based on what I saw, it was done by Iran.” US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who traveled with him, did not immediately confirm this. The US is investigating the incident, he said.

According to Iranian sources, around 170 schoolgirls were killed in the attack in Minab in the south of the country last Saturday.
Trump did not let Hegseth’s reticence dissuade him from his conviction: “We believe it was done by Iran,” he reiterated. Trump did not provide any evidence for this – he simply pointed out that Iran was “very inaccurate” with weapons.
Report: Girls’ school hit during US attacks
According to an analysis by the New York Times, the school was bombed during US attacks on a nearby military facility. An analysis of satellite images, verified videos and social media posts revealed that the school building was severely damaged by a precise strike. This took place at the same time as attacks on an adjacent naval base.
Official statements that US forces attacked Iranian Navy targets near the Strait of Hormuz, where the base is located, “suggest that they most likely carried out the attack,” the analysis said. However, the New York Times does not state in its report that the attack was actually carried out by US forces. (sda/dpa)
