The People’s Republic will “resolutely combat separatist forces” and resist external interference. This emerged from the government’s work report, which Premier Li Qiang presented at the beginning of the annual National People’s Congress. It was also said that they would “advance the cause of national reunification”.

A year ago there was no mention of “fighting” in the same place. At that time it was said that they would “resolutely oppose separatist activities aimed at Taiwan’s independence and external interference.”
China counts Taiwan as part of its territory and wants to bind the island, which has been governed independently for decades, to itself – if necessary by force.
