The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on Monday rejected a request to delay the start of the restitution process for several months.

The background to this is a ruling by the US Supreme Court, which declared certain tariffs imposed by the government to be unlawful. As a result, importers could be entitled to billions in repayments. The government argued in a motion filed on Friday that there were still outstanding legal issues that needed to be clarified first.
However, Monday’s decision means that the proceedings will continue before the commercial court, the US Court of International Trade. This should now determine how and within what time frame the repayments will be processed. Several well-known Swiss companies such as Stöckli, Swatch and Breitling are also hoping for refunds due to wrongly paid customs duties. (sda/dpa/con)
