These were not directed directly against the member of the Bundestag, but against third parties, as the Dresden Public Prosecutor’s Office announced. When asked, a spokesman did not say who the measures were specifically aimed at. It is believed that potential evidence can be found. No further details were given.
The Bundestag in Berlin, where the AfD is the second largest parliamentary group, gave approval to carry out the investigative measures on Thursday. This does not involve a new investigation with new allegations against the MP, as the public prosecutor’s office emphasized.
Last May, the Dresden Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into bribery and money laundering in connection with Chinese payments against Krah. According to the information, the allegations relate to his previous mandate as a member of the European Parliament. The politician had rejected the allegations.
In September, the Dresden Higher Regional Court sentenced a former employee of Krah, who worked in his then MP’s office in the European Parliament in Brussels from 2019 to 2024, to four years in prison for spying for China. (sda/dpa)
