The Senate Democratic minority leader, Chuck Schumer, accuses the US Department of Justice of a “massive cover-up” in its handling of the Epstein scandal, among other things, to protect President Donald Trump. At a press conference in the Capitol, he accused the ministry of violating the law regarding the publication of the investigative files into the case of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019.

“The law requires the Justice Department to release all files, not just some of them, not just the ones they want to pick and choose and release,” he said, according to the statement. «Let me be completely frank. There is a massive cover-up at the Justice Department to protect Donald Trump and people associated with Jeffrey Epstein.” It is known that the US government is unlawfully withholding some documents.
He referred to media reports about the alleged lack of FBI interrogation protocols in the documents relating to the investigation against Epstein. The publicly available documents include an allegation that a girl was forced to perform sexual acts with Trump. According to the US broadcaster NPR, the Justice Department is said to have withheld other relevant documents in this context or temporarily removed them from the public database.
The ministry denies this and said that only documents that were duplicate, privileged or related to ongoing investigations were not published. If documents were incorrectly labeled by mistake, they would be published after checking. Trump has always denied any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein. (hkl/sda/dpa)
