The 65-year-old announced this through his lawyers. The reasons given for the appeal include alleged legal errors in the first instance judgment and an exaggerated indictment.

On December 3, 2024, Yoon unexpectedly declared martial law and tried to seal off the National Assembly with the help of soldiers. Last Thursday, the conservative politician was convicted in the first instance of leading an uprising and sentenced to life in prison. The court found it proven that Yoon wanted to undermine the democratic constitution by imposing martial law. (sda/dpa)
