In Iran, the judiciary has handed down a death sentence and years of imprisonment to a father and his daughter in connection with the recent protests.
A revolutionary court in the capital Tehran imposed the death penalty on the man and 25 years in prison for his daughter, the online portal “Emtedad” reported, citing her lawyer.
According to the report, the two convicts were arrested on the outskirts of Tehran after the killing of an officer during unrest in early January. The trial was presided over by Abolghassem Salawati, also known in Iran as the “Judge of Death”. According to Islamic legal opinion, the sentence was imposed for “waging war against God”.
The defense appealed the verdict to the Supreme Court, as “Emtedad” reported. However, the application was rejected. A legal representative for the security forces called for the death penalty to be carried out in public at the site of the officer’s killing.
