The Polish secret service has arrested a suspected agent who is said to have spied in Germany, Poland and Lithuania.

The Belarusian citizen was caught at the beginning of February, the domestic secret service ABW said. The investigators accuse him of having spied on military objects and critical infrastructure for the Belarusian secret service in Germany, Poland and Lithuania since June 2024.
According to the information, the arrest is a result of cooperation with the German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (domestic secret service) and the Lithuanian secret service. The man was initially taken into custody for three months. If convicted, he faces at least five years in prison.
Poland is one of the main political and military supporters of Ukraine, which is attacked by Russia. The government in Warsaw accuses the secret services of Russia and its ally Belarus of sending many agents into the country and recruiting saboteurs. (sda/dpa)
