There has been another flood at the Musée du Louvre in Paris. The incident took place in the Denon wing, which has large collections of Italian and French paintings.

A ceiling painting from 1819 was damaged, as the museum confirmed to the German Press Agency (dpa).
The ceiling shows cracks and peeling of the paint layer. A more detailed assessment of the works of art is underway, it said. The flooding occurred on Friday night. The leak was stopped that night.
Defective heating pipe
According to the Louvre, the flooding was caused by a defective heating supply pipe in a technical room. The affected rooms initially remained closed.
Around two months ago, a flood damaged books and documents in the Library of Egyptian Antiquities.
The Musée du Louvre in Paris has been in the headlines repeatedly for months. In October last year, jewelry worth 88 million euros (around 80 million francs) was stolen in a burglary. It was only on Friday that suspicions of a multi-million dollar fraud in connection with ticket sales became public. (hkl/sda/dpa)
