US President Donald Trump’s punitive tariffs are having a measurable impact on the Scottish whiskey industry. In 2025, export values for the USA fell by four percent to 933 million pounds compared to the previous year, according to the Whiskey Association.
In the period from May to December 2025 – during which Trump’s punitive tariffs of ten percent applied – the export value fell by seven percent. “The industry reiterates its call for a return to duty-free trade with the USA,” said the Scotch Whiskey Association.
In terms of export value, the USA is the most important market for the association. France follows with an export value of 404 million pounds (the equivalent of around 423 million francs), which is a decrease of 3.6 percent compared to the previous year. Globally, Scottish whiskey exports fell by 0.6 percent in value in 2025. (sda/dpa)
