If you want to watch the US documentary “Melania”, you will search in vain in the program of the Braunschweig cinemas in Germany. But perhaps there is an unusual possibility.

Braunschweig residents can currently see the films “The Stranger” and “Amrum” in the universe, but the US documentary “Melania” is not on the program. Volker Kufahl, managing director of Universum Kinobetriebs GmbH, says: “A performance has not yet been planned.” There was only one motivation for the team to “include this 40 million dollar propaganda piece of crap in the program: to shed light on the cynical self-dramatization of an unscrupulous power elite.”
Kufahl says: “If 100 volunteers come forward who are willing to spend money on this crap, we would show the film once and donate the profits to Amnesty International.” The “Braunschweiger Zeitung” first reported on the idea of the cinema.
Find 100 volunteers: profits go to Amnesty International
The managing director himself doesn’t believe that 100 volunteers will come forward. But if it goes ahead, the performance could at least be combined with a good cause, because 100 visitors would raise some money. “Amnesty is globally committed to human rights that are being trampled on by the USA globally,” is how he explains his decision to support the human rights organization.
When asked by the t-online Braunschweig editorial team whether he had watched the documentary, Kufahl replied: “No, I haven’t seen the film myself, it’s too much of a waste of my life for that.” For him, the information from a serious film review is enough.
Volunteers for the film can contact info@universum-filmtheater.de. According to Kufahl, they have until February 12th. “Brave and suffering people who are willing and geographically able to see the film in our cinema in Braunschweig have one week to think about it and get in touch.”
The film follows the American first lady during the three weeks before her husband’s second inauguration in January 2025. Viewers get insights into normally non-public situations. In one scene, she advises Donald Trump to use the words “peacemaker and unifier” in his speech.
