The new documents in the Jeffrey Epstein case published on Friday not only contain a large number of allegations against US President Donald Trump – but also an email from his current wife Melania to Epstein’s partner Ghislaine Maxwell.
The email from Melania Trump, then still Knauss, was dated October 23, 2002, just over two years before her wedding to Donald Trump, with whom she had been in a relationship since 1998. The greeting already sounds familiar: “Dear G! How are you doing?”
“Love, Melania”
Melania later compliments Maxwell and her partner Jeffrey Epstein: “Nice story about JE (Jeffrey Epstein, editor’s note) in New York Magazine. You look great in that picture.” Melania continued: “I know that you are very busy flying all over the world. How was Palm Beach? I can’t wait to be there myself. Call me when you get back to New York.” Donald Trump’s private residence Mar-a-Lago is located in Palm Beach, Florida. It is unclear whether Melania is referring to a visit by the Epstein-Maxwell couple to Mar-a-Lago.
The email ends: “Have a great time! Love, Melania.”
In her response, Maxwell calls Melania “sweet pea” – which literally means “sweet pea,” but is better read simply as “sweetie.” Maxwell continues: “My plans have actually changed again and I’m already on my way back to New York. I’ll be traveling on Friday, so I probably won’t find time to meet you. But I’ll try to call you. Take care.”
According to the US Department of Justice, the documents published on Friday contain more than three million pages of documents, thousands of videos and well over 100,000 photos.
Many of the new files go back more than a decade and shed light on the sex offender’s relationships after he was sentenced to prison back in 2008. Numerous defaced documents can also be found. Among other things, victims’ personal data was blacked out. Pornographic material showing children as well as anything that could hinder federal investigations was also excluded from publication, it said.
