Surprising turnaround in the dispute over Trump’s Greenland plans
In recent weeks, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to annex Greenland – if in doubt, also with military force. Denmark and Greenland had firmly opposed this.
On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump surprisingly announced that he was not seeking a violent solution. He justified this by saying that a framework for a future agreement on Greenland had emerged during a meeting with NATO chief Mark Rutte. A working group made up of high-ranking representatives from the USA, Greenland and Denmark is now in talks to work towards an agreement. (sda/dpa/fwa)
