83,000 foreign nationals living in Switzerland would have left Switzerland in 2025, the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) wrote on Monday based on provisional figures. That is around 5 percent more than in the previous year.
At the same time, around 165,000 foreigners came to Switzerland, around 3 percent fewer than in 2024, according to SEM. This means that the net immigration of foreigners has declined for the second time in a row. For 2025 it was 75,000 people, 10 percent lower than in 2024.
Around 5 percent fewer people moved to Switzerland from EU and EFTA states than in 2024. For most of them, the reason for this was a job. Around 20 percent fewer new immigrants came from third countries. At the end of 2025, around 2.4 million foreigners lived in the country. (sda)
