On Monday, Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen will participate in the North Sea Summit in Hamburg (Germany), an international event hosted by the German Federal Government to boost cross-border cooperation on expanding offshore wind energy.
This year, the Summit will bring together leaders, Energy Ministers and industry representatives from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, the UK, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, as well as Iceland and NATO for the first time.
Commissioner Jørgensen will give a press doorstep at his arrival in the morning, at around 08:40 CET, and participate in a press conference with Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Katherina Reiche, and Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero of the UK, Ed Miliband, at around 10:00 CET. Throughout the day, Commissioner Jørgensen will engage with his counterparts in roundtables and panel discussions, and participate in a site visit to the offshore research vessel ATAIR.
Discussions will focus on investment frameworks for cross-border projects and the need to cooperate further on energy infrastructure developments as proposed in the European Grids Package and the Energy Highways initiative. Strengthened energy interconnectivity is crucial for Europe to boost industrial competitiveness and to achieve independence. Discussions will also touch upon the need to protect critical energy infrastructure and boost the energy system’s resilience amid growing security threats and geopolitical instability.
