New Social Situation Monitor research notes shed light on ageing and jobs in Europe’s technological future

_European Commission News

The Social Situation Monitor is pleased to announce two newly published research notes presenting empirical evidence on relevant social and labour market developments in Europe.

  • How clustered are disadvantages among older Europeans?: This research note shows that recognising how disadvantages cluster across multiple active ageing dimensions not only reveals that many older Europeans continue to face overlapping challenges, but also demonstrates the potential of the maximal position approach to uniquely identify those most at risk and inform more effective, well targeted ageing and wellbeing policies.
  • The future employment impact of artificial intelligence and emerging digital technologies in Europe: This note shows that AI and emerging digital technologies are set to increase employment overall in Europe, but the gains will be uneven, benefiting mainly high skilled, prime-age workers and women, while low skilled and young workers, and structurally weaker regions remain more exposed to negative impacts without targeted support.
