The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) is currently making a lot of headlines and dividing the United States. Music legend Bruce Springsteen has now also taken a stand at an appearance.

On January 17, Bruce Springsteen was a surprise guest at a benefit concert to support Parkinson’s research in Red Bank, New Jersey. The music legend – also known as “The Boss” – sent clear words to the US government under President Donald Trump:

Springsteen addressed the audience before playing one of his most famous songs called “The Promised Land.” He wrote it at the time as an ode to American possibilities, said the 76-year-old. The USA and what it stands for is currently being tested like never before and these are incredibly difficult times. To the audience, Springsteen said:
“If you believe in the power of the law and that no one is above it, if you stand up to heavily armed, masked federal officers who are invading an American city and using Gestapo methods against our fellow citizens, if you believe that you should not be murdered for exercising your American right to protest, then send this president a message like the city’s mayor did: ICE should get the hell out of Minneapolis.”
Finally, he dedicated his song to mother of three Renee Good. The US citizen was shot dead in her car by an ICE agent on the street in a residential area in the city of Minneapolis on January 7th. The case is causing major controversy in the United States because many people are questioning the agency’s official account that the agent acted in self-defense. Videos of the incident at least raise reasonable doubts.
Springsteen is an outspoken Trump critic
This isn’t the first time Springsteen has spoken out against Trump. The US President has already reacted to this in the past. He once described the musician as “a wilted plum of a rocker.” At that time, he threatened to open an investigation against Springsteen because he had publicly supported Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 US presidential election campaign.
Springsteen, on the other hand, didn’t let this deter him and even released his statements and speeches against Trump with the associated songs as an EP. He still repeats it at many concerts. (lzo)
