After a conversation with his US colleague Marco Rubio, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul does not expect US military action to annex Greenland.

“I believe that there is a common interest that we should and will take care of the security issues that arise in the Arctic region,” said the CDU politician to the media after a meeting with his US colleague Marco Rubio in Washington.
Wadephul also said that NATO is in the process of “developing more concrete plans” for security in the Arctic, which will then be discussed with the USA. This has not been possible at the moment, “but everyone is of course willing to discuss these questions in the NATO area.”
US President Donald Trump repeatedly makes it clear that he wants to bring the island, which officially belongs to NATO partner Denmark, under the control of the United States. (sda/dpa)
