“The USA is an established power, but it is progressively turning away from some of its allies and breaking away from international rules that it recently promoted,” Macron told French ambassadors in Paris. He cited trade and “security elements” as examples.
Macron said: “We are developing in a world of great powers with a real temptation to divide the world.” What has happened in the past months and days does not diminish this statement. Macron also explicitly mentioned China and Russia in his remarks. He warned that all instances where common questions could be clarified and cooperation could be weakened.
“There is a risk of weakening our Europe, which, in the face of this brutality and the law of the stronger, will be the last place where we continue to remember the rules of the game that others no longer respect,” warned Macron. (sda/dpa)
