US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy had productive talks on Sunday about a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, according to Reuters.

Trump said that there were one or two thorny issues regarding the Russia-Ukraine talks, and that US-Ukraine security guarantees are 95 per cent agreed to.

President Zelenskiy said that guarantees were 100 per cent agreed to.

Trump also said that they would find ways to get around Putin’s opposition to a ceasefire, and that Russia would be helping with the reconstruction of Ukraine, according to Reuters.

Ahead of the talks with Zelenskiy, Trump said on Sunday that he believed the discussions about ending Russia’s war in Ukraine were in “the final stages”.

Trump’s comments followed an earlier phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which Trump described as “good and very productive”, according to the Irish Times. Putin, Trump said, is “very serious” about ending the war.
