French unions have called for a rolling strike at Paris’ Louvre museum starting 15 December over deteriorating working conditions and a lack of resources, Agence France-Presse reported.

The CGT, Sud and CFDT labor organizations voted unanimously in favor of the industrial action at a meeting on Monday, the CFDT told AFP.

The former royal palace, which had 8.7 million visitors last year, has suffered a series of setbacks in recent weeks that have underscored flaws in security and the deteriorating condition of the museum.

It was struck by thieves in October, who made off with around $100 million of jewels in a daring daytime heist. Last month, hundreds of works in its library on Egyptian antiquities were damaged when a water pipe burst in an obsolete heating and ventilation system, while a gallery was closed due to the dilapidated state of the building.

French President Emmanuel Macron set out a plan in January to renovate the Louvre, which he described as the world’s most-visited museum. French media reported this was expected to cost around €700 million to €800 million ($816 million to $932 million).
