Just a few hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj warned of an impending “massive” Russian attack, an air alarm was sounded in Kiev.
A correspondent for the AFP news agency reported several explosions in the Ukrainian capital on Thursday night.
“Air alert in Kiev due to the danger of the use of ballistic weapons,” warned the military administration. She appealed to the residents of the capital to immediately go to the nearest shelters.
Zelensky had previously warned of an impending “massive” Russian air strike on Thursday night. “The Russians prepared a massive attack a few days ago, and there is a high probability that the attack will be carried out tonight,” Zelensky wrote on Wednesday evening in the short message service X. He called on the population across the country to pay attention to a possible air alert.
Zelensky also called on the United States and other Western allies to supply Ukraine with Patriot air defense missiles. Kyiv needs these to defend against Russian attacks with ballistic missiles. On Tuesday, Zelenskyj spoke to US President Donald Trump in Washington about the Patriot defense system. (sda/apa/afp/dpa)
