Around three years after a corresponding ruling, US author E. Jean Carroll was paid millions in compensation from US President Donald Trump. Carroll received around $5.6 million (approximately 4.5 million Swiss francs), court documents showed and her lawyer confirmed. This is the compensation payment of five million dollars that Trump was sentenced to in 2023, plus the interest that has accrued on the sum since then.

The background is a decision from 2023: A New York jury considered it proven that Trump had attacked the US author in a luxury New York department store in 1996, sexually abused her and later slandered her. He was sentenced to pay compensation of five million US dollars (around 4.1 million Swiss francs). Trump always denied the allegations. Although the allegations were time-barred under criminal law, legal recourse was still open under civil law.
Trump had previously failed in several attempts to challenge the verdict and the payment of compensation. Because the Supreme Court has not yet spoken a final word, the 82-year-old Carroll will initially only invest the money, said her lawyer. A decision by the Supreme Court is also still pending in another judgment in which Carroll was awarded $83 million by Trump. (dab/sda/dpa)
