According to consistent media reports, several dead people were found in a fire in downtown Brussels. Several lifeless people were discovered in an elevator in the building that was being renovated.
According to the Belgian portal flandersinfo The fire broke out early in the morning and appeared to have been quickly brought under control by the fire department. A spokesman for the labor prosecutor’s office said six people were missing and two elevators were blocked. The fire brigade created a small opening in one of the lifts.
The rescuers found several fatalities there. It is still unclear how many people are involved; but it could possibly be the six missing people.
The Oxy building in central Brussels, where the fire broke out, is currently undergoing extensive renovations. Among other things, luxury apartments, a hotel, office space and restaurants are to be built. There were more than 200 workers on site at the time of the fire.
