“Three people were injured, including a child,” said Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev. He also wrote that there was damage to residential buildings and an industrial property, without providing any further details. This is the oil refinery in Syzran, reported the independent internet portal “Astra” after evaluating images and videos from social networks. Several large fires can be seen in the complex.
The Russian military says it shot down 349 Ukrainian drones during the night. The size corresponds to the attacks of the past few days.
Sysran has already been targeted several times
Ukraine has attacked the refinery in Syzran several times. Most recently, the plant with a processing capacity of 8.5 million tons had to stop working after an attack at the end of May. The refinery, which belongs to the state oil company Rosneft, produces, among other things, gasoline, diesel and kerosene. Russia is now experiencing a fuel deficit due to constant Ukrainian attacks on oil processing capacity. Gas stations only dispense fuel in limited quantities and drivers have to wait in long queues to get any at all.
Kiev has been using this tactic for months to persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin, who ordered the invasion of Ukraine more than four years ago, to negotiate. In order to achieve peace, Russia demands, among other things, the handover of areas of land that the Russian army has still not been able to conquer more than four years after the invasion. (sda/dpa)
