“Revenge is the demand of our people and must certainly take place,” said a message read on state television, which was attributed to Khamenei’s son and successor Moschtaba.
Khamenei was killed on February 28 in an Israeli airstrike on his official residence in Tehran. The USA and Israel then waged war against Iran for more than five weeks until a ceasefire was agreed at the beginning of April. Despite the ceasefire and a framework agreement, mutual attacks continued to occur afterwards, most recently a few days ago. In particular, the dispute over control of the Strait of Hormuz, which is important for world trade, continues to fuel the conflict between the USA and Iran.
Speculation about Moschtaba Khamenei
Since his appointment as the new supreme leader more than four months ago, Modshtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public. Since then there has been a lot of speculation about his whereabouts and his state of health. According to US media reports, he is said to have been seriously injured in the air strike that killed his father. Iran’s state television described him as a “disabled war veteran” months ago, but gave no details.
Notices are regularly published on Khamenei junior’s website. However, there are still no video recordings or audio messages. (sda/dpa)
