A Boeing 737 belonging to the Pakistani airline K2 Airways has apparently disappeared from radar screens on its way from Dubai to Karachi. On websites that tracked the flight, data stopped during the flight over the northern Arabian Sea south of Karachi. The cargo plane was still above the water at the time. According to the flight data website Flightradar24, authorities in Karachi have begun a search operation.
According to previously unconfirmed reports, there were five crew members on board. The last flight data transmitted showed a loss of altitude of 35,000 feet within two minutes.
The Boeing 737-4M0 entered service with K2 Airways in 2024. It was originally put into operation as a passenger aircraft by Aeroflot in 1999, then by Garuda Indonesia from 2004. In 2012, the aircraft was converted into a cargo aircraft and operated initially by TNT Airways and later by ASL Airlines.
According to Flightradar24, there are repeated disruptions in the reception of position data in the region due to GPS jammers. The Boeing was also affected by this shortly after takeoff, but was later able to send GPS data of the flight again. Two hours later the transmission finally stopped.
