Ukraine attacked Russia with hundreds of drones during the night, many of which were heading towards Moscow. The Defense Ministry in Moscow said 452 unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted over 17 Russian regions. Damage was reported, among others, in the Belgorod region near the border and the Kaluga industrial area southwest of Moscow.
According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, “more than 430 drones” headed for the Russian capital. Most of them were shot down far from Moscow, 36 in direct approach to the city, he wrote on Telegram. This would be the largest Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow in the past two years. However, it is unclear which drones were included in Sobyanin’s statistics. The information cannot be independently verified. He did not report any damage, but the capital’s airports were closed for hours.
According to media reports, a pipe factory belonging to Gazprom went up in flames in the western Russian city of Belgorod. The acting governor of the region, Alexander Shushayev, wrote of a rocket attack, after which a fire broke out in an unspecified infrastructure facility. One person was killed in the attack.
Meanwhile, in Kaluga, a fire broke out in an industrial facility following drone attacks, according to Governor Vladislav Shapscha. According to media reports, this is an oil facility. (maw/sda/dpa)
