Federal President Guy Parmelin spoke to the crew of the International Space Station ISS. In a video published on the X platform, he asked, among other things, what a politician could learn from astronauts – and whether there was wine in space.

Parmelin conducted the conversation during a visit to the US space agency NASA in Houston. The crew of the ISS responded from weightlessness and also presented a Swiss flag.
The Federal President asked the crew several questions, including about their everyday life in space. He wanted to know whether the astronauts could watch World Cup football games and whether wine was available on the ISS. Astronaut Sophie Adenot had to deny the latter: alcohol was not allowed on the space station for technical reasons.
He himself prefers to stay on earth, said Parmelin with a smile. Finally, he asked the crew for a photo of Lake Geneva from space. The crew assured him that such recordings were already available. They will be sent to him.
Parmelin published excerpts from the conversation on Tuesday on X. He had previously shared pictures of his visit to NASA in Houston on the platform. (sda)
