There he was treated for, among other things, dementia, high blood pressure, cognitive impairment and stomach ulcers. A doctor declared his death on June 24th. An autopsy was ordered to determine the cause of death.
According to the report, the man tried to enter the USA at the border crossing near Laredo at the end of August 2025, but was denied entry due to a lack of valid documents. The Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP) has initiated proceedings and referred the case to a US Department of Justice court. A day later, the man was transferred to ICE custody. The authorities placed him in a nursing home a month later.
According to ICE information, in addition to various US authorities and the German Consulate General, relatives were also notified of the man’s death. Harlingen and Laredo are Texas towns directly on the border with the US neighbor Mexico. (dab/sda/dpa)
