A ten-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man died in a swimming accident in the River Ill in the Austrian town of Bludenz. The boy’s 40-year-old father was seriously injured and taken to a hospital.
According to the police, the three were at the river below a waterfall with the child’s grandfather. The father was already in the water when the ten-year-old and the 22-year-old jumped from the waterfall into the river. All three were caught in the strong current of a water roller and were pulled under the water and did not resurface, it was said.
The grandfather was able to pull the 40-year-old out of the water, while the 22-year-old died at the scene of the accident. The child was initially resuscitated and flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter, where he later died from his injuries. (sda/dpa)
