Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin has called an emergency meeting on the current Russian fuel supply problems. First of all, the impact of repeated Ukrainian attacks on refineries and other oil industry facilities must be mitigated. “We must reduce the consequences of terrorist attacks on our civilian facilities and infrastructure,” he was quoted as saying by the state agency Tass. Representatives from various ministries and Russia’s most important oil producers took part in the meeting.
The recent increased Ukrainian attacks against the oil industry in Russia have led to serious supply problems. “There are queues at gas stations and the types of gasoline we need are not always in stock,” said Putin. He confirmed that an export ban on diesel fuel was already being considered. Russia has now begun tapping into its gasoline reserves.
Putin already expected a significant increase in production of the most important types of fuel in July. “The extraordinary tasks that arise will be solved clearly, quickly and competently in the interests of the country and our citizens,” he gave the producers and ministries a clear direction.
The constant Ukrainian attacks on oil facilities have already left deeper marks on Russians’ everyday lives: The fuel crisis, which began in Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, has now affected almost all regions of the country. Long queues form at gas stations that still sell gasoline. In Crimea, gas stations no longer sell fuel to private individuals. (sda/dpa)
