Eleven people died when a civilian plane crashed in northeastern France on Sunday. As French media reported with reference to rescue circles, it was the pilot and two groups of five parachutists each. The plane had taken off from Nancy-Essey airfield the previous Sunday.
According to the president of the regional nursing association of liberal nurses in Meurthe-et-Moselle, some of the victims could be self-employed nursing staff. Accordingly, a so-called “baptism flight” was apparently organized, in which both nursing staff and instructors were said to have been on board. Further details about what happened were initially not available.
According to the authorities, the area around the accident site in Tomblaine was largely cordoned off. A large number of police, fire brigade and rescue services are deployed to support the rescue work and reconstruct the course of the accident. The public prosecutor’s office has also started investigations.
The crashed machine is reportedly a Pilatus PC-6 registered in Germany. (hkl/sda/dpa)
