The security situation in Switzerland has deteriorated further – there is no all-clear in sight. This is the conclusion reached by the Federal Intelligence Service (NDB) in a current report.

“The biggest and most acute threat to Europe remains Russia; “Its hybrid conflict management is becoming more aggressive and is affecting Switzerland directly,” says the NDB report “Security Switzerland 2026” published on Thursday. Dangers lurked on a broad front: in espionage, in cyberspace, in critical infrastructure, but also from violent extremism and the increased threat of terrorism.
The threat from a distance is now getting closer: Iran’s guided missiles could reach larger parts of Europe in a few years, writes the intelligence service. “Switzerland’s protective environment is eroding – from the east, west and south,” said NDB director Serge Bavaud, summarizing the situation in a statement.
