A three-year-old boy has died locked in a car amid the heatwave in France. Rescue workers tried in vain to revive the child in Saint-Gratien, near Paris, on Wednesday evening.
The parents had previously tried to save their child, as the Pontoise public prosecutor announced.
Parental controls become a death trap
According to initial findings by the investigating authority, the mother had taken a siesta with the boy’s younger sibling. The father was working in the garden shed and had asked the three-year-old to go to sleep too.
Unnoticed by the parents, the child then got into the family’s car, which was parked outside at the entrance to the house. The doors were open, but the child locked himself inside because of the child lock.
Parents are in shock
The 37-year-old parents ultimately found the child lifeless in the car. The mother was taken to hospital in shock. Authorities opened an involuntary manslaughter investigation.
Just a few days ago, two children aged two and four were found dead in their family car in Carpentras, southern France. According to initial findings, they too had locked themselves in. (sda/dpa)
